This study investigates the effect of the Interpersonal Relationships and Self-Expression Program by Ronald B. Adler in which the art therapy is applied, and the subject of this study was the females who want to improve their interpersonal relationship. Five interviewees who experienced personal counseling owing to difficulties in interpersonal relationships were selected as participants. The program has taken for seven weeks, from October 24th to December 5th, 2006, once a week for two hours each.
To measure the effect, as a quantitative method, a questionnaire of self-expression problem area inserted in the Interpersonal Relationships and self expression Program by Adler was used before and after the program. As a qualitative analysis, the study employed self-portraits drawn by participants before and after the program as well as the written impression of participants after the program. As a result, all participants showed an increase in the self-expression score in five sub-areas of self-expression. Furthermore, the self-portrait showed the positive changes in participants self expression after the program, and the written impression also demonstrated that participants self-expression became positive as written "I saw an improvement in self-confidence" or "Now I can express myself in more active ways". Therefore, it is clear that the interpersonal "Relationships and Self-Expression Program" by Adler is effective in enhancing participants" self-expression ability.
